A global consumer and commercial technology manufacturer partnered with Bryghtpath to stress-test its newly formed Crisis Management Team, validating escalation and governance through a realistic tabletop exercise and establishing a maturity baseline to guide its next steps.

The Opportunity

A global consumer and commercial technology manufacturer had recently stood up a new Crisis Management Team and Steering Committee. With the structure new and untested, leaders needed to know whether escalation and governance pathways would hold under pressure, and whether the team could coordinate decisions across functions during a fast-moving disruption.

The organization engaged Bryghtpath to design and facilitate an enterprise crisis tabletop exercise. The goal was to stress-test the new team, validate how decisions would escalate from the Crisis Management Team to the Steering Committee and executives, and surface a prioritized roadmap to mature the program.

Approach and Results

Bryghtpath began with facilitated planning sessions, working with the manufacturer’s project team and operational subject-matter experts to ground the scenario in credible risk. The result was a multi-phase tabletop built around a series of severe storms that damaged a primary distribution center and its inventory. As the scenario advanced, a second storm caused structural damage and further loss, pushing the team from immediate life-safety decisions into longer-term recovery and communications.

Over four hours, the Crisis Management Team and Steering Committee worked the scenario in real time, evaluating recovery options, preparing notifications, and coordinating internal and external communications. Bryghtpath facilitated, delivered injects, and evaluated the response, then captured lessons through a hot wash and survey.

The exercise validated real strengths in the new team: strong cross-functional engagement, composed leadership under pressure, and proactive reputation awareness. It also surfaced clear opportunities in decision ownership, escalation governance, documentation, and business continuity. Bryghtpath delivered a prioritized After-Action Report and, using its Crisis Exercise Maturity Model, established a maturity baseline with a defined path toward more advanced exercises. The organization left with a tested team and a concrete roadmap to build on.

Key Activities

  • Facilitated planning sessions with the internal project team and site subject-matter experts to ground the scenario in real operational risk.
  • Developed an Exercise Design Brief defining objectives, scenario themes, roles, and escalation pathways.
  • Designed a multi-phase natural disaster scenario with branching injects, escalating from immediate life-safety issues to a prolonged operational disruption at a primary distribution center.
  • Facilitated a four-hour hybrid tabletop with the full Crisis Management Team and Steering Committee.
  • Captured immediate feedback through a structured hot wash and an anonymous after-action survey.
  • Delivered an After-Action Report with prioritized recommendations and an executive-level debrief.
  • Assessed the organization’s exercise readiness using Bryghtpath’s Crisis Exercise Maturity Model.

Outcomes

  • Validated escalation and governance pathways across the new Crisis Management Team, Steering Committee, and executives.
  • Built cohesion and role clarity within a newly formed team through realistic practice.
  • Surfaced a prioritized roadmap addressing decision authority, documentation, and crisis communications.
  • Identified the need for a formal business continuity program to quantify disruption impact and accelerate recovery.
  • Established a crisis exercise maturity baseline with a clear next step toward more complex exercises.
