A global healthcare organization, recently spun off from its parent company, retained Bryghtpath to develop, facilitate, and evaluate a Crisis Management Tabletop Exercise.
The Opportunity
The newly spun-off organization, having recently implemented a new Crisis Management program led by Bryghtpath, desired to practice its response and recovery strategies with its Corporate Crisis Management Team through a crisis tabletop exercise.
The tabletop exercise would be centered on a significant disruption that began as a reputational crisis driven by geopolitical events, further complicated by a cyberattack on the organization’s operations.
Approach and Results
Bryghtpath began this engagement by working with the organization to identify an internal project team of subject matter experts and leaders that could help plan a sound tabletop exercise scenario.
Through our discussions with the internal project team, we settled on a European-centric scenario that would begin with a reputation crisis brought on by the organization’s stance on a current geopolitical disruption fraught with internal and external pressures.
As the scenario unfolded with the participants over a few days of simulated time, it would be further complicated with a cyberattack and disruption that would impact the organization. Actual data from the organization was used to add realism and provide insight into impacts on operations.
The exercise was facilitated over three hours with more than forty participants across the Corporate Crisis Management Team, including their designated Crisis Executive.
Once the exercise was concluded, we collected feedback from the participants through a “hot wash” and a follow-up survey. We evaluated the exercise through a written after-action report, capturing our observations and recommendations for improvement across the program.
Additional exercises are planned in the coming months to further mature the organization’s crisis management program and capabilities.
